Canadian Blood Services has banned donations from anyone with chronic fatigue syndrome.
The decision was based on US research, published in Science in October 2009, linking chronic fatigue symdrome to the retrovirus XMRV.
However, there has been a fair amount of debate about this evidence. An article in PLoS One by a UK based research group refuted the US findings. The BMJ has also published an excellent editorial overview of these conflicting research finding.
